So first I wanted to say thank you for all your nice phone messages, emails, comments, etc. since my last post. I guess I invited you all to my pity party. I kept waiting for the special van to show up with a straight jacket--just my size.
Really, I truly appreciate your concern and everything! A few of you even offered to let me kick you in the teeth. Wow! That's friendship! It absolutely helps knowing that there are so many people who care.
So we're moving to Dallas. Like, soon. How soon? Dave starts his new job July 1st. That's right--2008. I actually haven't given it too much thought. Which is a problem, I suppose. There is certainly a lot to do. Luckily, I haven't had much of a chance to think about since I've had family visiting for the past week--which was a really nice distraction for me. They all just left today so now I guess it's time to face reality. Maybe I'll go sit in the corner for a while and trill my lips.
If I were keeping a gratitude journal (which really is a good idea, it just has to be MY idea), I would make a list of all the good things about moving to Dallas. A short list would be:
1. It's a great opportunity for Dave's career, and for our future.
2.. Dave's sister Julie and her family, who we all love, live there.
3. Dave's parents have furniture in a storage unit there, which means they may go back there after their mission???
4. There's a temple there.
5. There's a Cosco there.
6.. It's still Texas--and as it turns out, I'm a Texan.
7. There's more than one mall.
8. There's lots of other stuff there. What other stuff? I can't think of them at the moment.
If I were keeping a Debbie Downer journal (and you all know that I am), my list might be a bit longer. A few of the items would be:
1. I will have to leave a town that I love, that has been my home for 8 1/2 years--which is longer than I've lived anywhere.
2. I will have to leave my beautiful home, full of wonderful happy memories, and kind, loving neighbors.
3. I will have to pack up Zach's room and put away his crib, his clothes, his toys...for good.
4. I will leave an amazing support system--and the greatest friends who have helped me through the most difficult days of my life. And I will be leaving a place where people knew Zach, as a real, living person (and loved him).
5. I will be leaving Dave's brother Ben, and his awesome family, who have been "there" for us and who we enjoy spending time with.
6. I will be leaving Zachary, at least the physical place where I can leave him flowers and talk to him. (I know there are other places to feel close to him, but this was one of them).
7. My kids will also be leaving their dear friends, swim teams, teachers, support.
8. I have to include this one....I will be leaving Lorena--who has mopped my floors for 5 years now. That's a tough one. (I know most of you don't feel sorry for me on that one). :) But this is MY Debbie Downer list.
9. To name just a few....an awesome piano teacher who comes to my house, the ability to get almost anywhere I want to go in 5 minutes, an awesome ward, a great school, The Garlic Press, Rosa's, and about 63 more irreplacable things. Maybe 64.
Also, I should add "no more dust storms" to my gratitude list. And perhaps it will be nice to see green things growing. But that's it!
